About Us:

Liverpool Adventure Outfitters Ltd. opened in April 2003 as a small shop focused mainly on canoeing and kayaking, with a small selection of camping accessories.  We had so much space that we had some tents set up inside our shop.  Over the years, we have expanded to include bicycles, camping gear, clothing, accessories, and a full service bicycle repair shop.  We are now bursting at the seams, and while we still have tents available for purchase, we would be hard-pressed to find a space in our shop to set any of them up!

In addition to our store, we also offer kayaking, canoeing, standup paddleboarding, and multi-sport adventures on the South Shore of Nova Scotia and other locations such as Belize and Costa Rica.  We continue to add to our tour offering each year, and love helping people enjoy the beautiful outdoors!  Our staff are certified standup paddleboard instructors, kayaking instructors, and canoe instructors.

We strive to offer the best service possible, and will help you find the right products for your next adventure!

Tom Blackford

Tom joined the team as a kayak guide in 2020 but is no stranger to the area.  His wife Susie grew up in Port Joli and, together with their four children, they returned every summer.  Now, as permanent residents, they enjoy Nova Scotia’s South Shore year-round.

He worked in Maine as a boatbuilder, building lobster boats, and as an educator, teaching at and eventually running, a small residential private school for boys.  Leading fall canoe trips on the Allagash was his favorite part of the experience.   A lifelong interest in sailing and a more recent interest in sea kayaking was a good fit for the coast of Maine and is equally rewarding here on the coast of Nova Scotia.

Tom holds Level II Sea Kayaking through Paddle Canada and a Wilderness Remote First Aid certificate.  He enjoys sharing the experience of paddling and learning more about the local coast.

When Tom is not out on the water, he can be found in his workshop building his next kayak.
